Dallas Texas Conference with videos from 1988
Thanks to timely support from Edwina Grosvenor. I have rescued the following video of my conference presentation in Dallas Texas in 1988. This was 3 years before I went to work in Parkhurst Prison, and explains in the clearest possible terms what I had then discovered, and why I agreed to work there.
I took these three videos around 30 centres in the United States, including Massachusetts, in October and November of that year, and met with a lot of support from the people working on the ground, and as much disapproval from those in authority as I have since. But the fact that these points have stood the test of time, indeed got stronger, indicates that it is time the rest of medicine, indeed the rest of society began to take a great deal more interest in childhood wellbeing, and, as here, child-trauma. Violence and a whole stream of other mental diseases are curable, once you look for the causative factors.
I have had the faces pixelated, and cut those of the questioners – but what remains is still remarkably similar to what I would do today. I wonder how many doctors could or would say that 4 decades later.
Verbatim dialogue below, starts at minute 16 and onwards.
Happy viewing
Bob
